in pictures. Old world charm…

The old world charm of putting flowers in your hair in a bun… something so nostalgic and lovely about it. In south India it’s quite the tradition, to infact put flowers in your hair (mostly jasmine) every morning after a bath! Though I don’t indulge in that luxury every day…in this festive time of the year, I did..And it felt lovely! Coupled with the bright pink of my Nicobar kurta, it was a match made in heaven 😍

I don’t know if it’s just me…but the impromptu shoot on the day of Bhai Dooj, of the three of us (couldn’t manage to get both the boys together sadly:() somehow reminds me of old oil paintings… And I love the feeling! Always a sucker for all things old and vintage…✨✨✨

On me:

Kurta from Nicobar

Pants from Manan

Earrings from Amrapali at Good Earth
Chappals-Gift from husband from a recent trip to Ahmedabad 🙂
On Kabir:
Kurta and churidars from Anokhi

in pictures.Dussehra celebrations in white…

Continuing the festive season dress up… for Dussehra this time. Celebrating the victory of goodnover evil dressed in white as family. Celebrated in different ways across India. Though I missed Kabir seeing the burning of the effigies which happens in the northern part of India. But we celebrated it with tikka and gifts, from Sapan’s side of the family. And it was wonderful…

In pictures. Onam dress up…

It’s always so much fun to dress up for festive occasions! And with friends from all parts of India, the opportunities are aplenty! This time round was for Onam lunch at  Mally friends home..

A lovely lavish spread eaten on banana leaves sitting on the floor. With the men first serving the women and than the reverse…

in pictures. sunday dress up…

Dressing up on a Sunday morning for a wedding…. made fun! And me gleeful at being able to get Kabir to stay in his blazer long enough! 😄 After explaining why we are dressing up special and the whole concept of a wedding. “Mamma, one day I’ll be 12 and then 14 and  then 15 and then….when I am big like you…” ” I will get married at my wedding!!!” And I get amused and worried at the same time. Why is that when you are that young, growing up and doing all the grown up things seems like the best thing ever!?! Slow down my handsome young man..slow down…

Denims & shoes- Zara

in pictures. Delhi and Kabir’s first train ride…

Impromptu plans are the best plans. They can be messy. last minute, a bit hectic but in the end always the most memorable. I was in Delhi for work (yet again!) with no complaints whatsoever this time. And why would I. I love Delhi this time of the year, with  the winter just setting in. The air filled with smells that only Delhi has this time of the year. Delhi winters…ah! Even without the snow, there’s something magical about it.

Kabir did make the most of it. Late afternoons in the park, hopping from one swing to the other. Evening strolls enjoying the nip in the air. A week well spent.

Also, getting pampered by his mamu who he might not be seeing in a long time now. With mamu moving to Luxembourg soon…

The week away  was to end on Sunday but the last minute planning extended it by another two days. For a friend’s weeding. A lot of painful phone calls postponing my ticket and Kabir’s. Booking train tickets. Coordinating with friends, family across states. But it finally fell in place. And we left for Jaipur early Monday morning by train. Kabir’s first.

He was transfixed to the window for a while after we took off. “Mamma…look look…it’s a cow…it’s a goat…more cows…” ..”Mamma..it’s a red tractor!!!” 🙂

But after a while the magic wore off and he wanted to go back to his Peppa… 😀

A short and sweet ride complete with a nap. He was ready for Jaipur and the wedding action that followed! Meeting new uncles and aunties and charming all as usual…

A lil note. It’s been a while.

It’s been a while since I visited this space of mine. Work, lots of travel topped with a bit of laziness. Had some amazing vacations with Sapan and Kabir. The hills and the beach! A lot of travel alone for work, including spending my birthday away from my boys in Stockholm. My favorite festival Diwali came and went too. A good time as always but not the same with Sapan sick in bed with fever.

So much happened and so many experience in these few months that it’s hard now to put it in a few words. So Im goign to try and put down highlight like I would in an official mail I’d write at work!

1) I had the biggest aaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwww moment when I cam ehome one day to find Kabir playing in teh sand-pit. See’s me and get excited as usual…”Mammmmaaaa!!!” Hug and kiss and then “Lets god home now” . Sit sdown to put his shoes on, hears me cough and says…”  Maamaa ..you are coughing!” “Yes sweetheart, Mamma has a cough…” “Did you take medicine?!”

My heart just melted! When did he become so big!

2) A Piscean and a fish in the truest sense! His happiness in the sea in Goa was just so contagious. And his fearlessness of it, completely scary! He wanted to just run into the waves, trying so hard to make us let go of his hand. A very very memorable trip to Goa, Kabir’s first and my second.

3) Diwali was full of mixed feelings for him, with the loud noises scaring him. But the light and rockets and the non noisy crackers getting him all excited.” Mamma look the rocket is going into outer space!”

4) I was in and out of home for almost an entire month. But my lil baby was so brave and understanding. Missing me terribly as I was him, but being such a big boy about it. And facetime did make things a bit more bearable. Talking and catching up on the go. Sharing stories and laughing along. Times I even sang to him while he tried to sleep over the phone…”Mamma…I want old mc donald…”

5) Coming back after each trip and seeing Kabir’s face when he comes to our room and sees both mamma and daddy on the bed!!! That look…that love…absolute and unadulterated joy// ❤ ❤ ❤ And then the joy of seeing his eyes roll with wonder after I pull out his presents. “Wow!! Mamma….that beautiful!!!” …”Yayy…guitar…” and then the endless strumming with eyes closed and totally feeling the music.

6) He had his first Halloween dress up for school. He was our lil rocket ship!!! And how he loved it….screaming away…” Bllaaaaaasssst offf into ouuttter spaaccee!!!” From the minute he saw mommy and daddy sprawled over paper, cutting an sticking, he couldn’t hold his excitement!

Here’s to being less lazy and saving more memories….

on the road. holiday in the hills.

Shimla. A place which used to be our summer holiday destination for years. All through school, the 2 month long summer break would mean at least a month or so spent in my aunt’s beautiful home in the hills. Of course we got tired of it. Same place year in and year out. But then now after I went back there after almost 8 years, in April this year. It brought back nothing but the fondest of memories. And to be able to share that with my husband and son. Absolutely priceless. Now my husband gets my constant blabber about how beautiful the house is 😀

The house is really amazing- The Stirling Castle, Longwood, Shimla. It has a history which goes back years. One of the oldest houses in Shimla built in 1835 or thereabout. It’s original environs are still in tact. It was the residence of renowned Britishers. In early twentieth century, it became property of Maharaja of Gawalior and then of Maharaja of Nabha. In 1963, it was sold by Nabha to The Save The Children Fund to run here a home for Tibetan Refugee Children. The present owners purchased it in 1970 from The Save The Children Fund after FUND’S affairs in INDIA were wound up. The house is on the top of the Elysium Hill and commands a view (360 degrees)of Shimla town and hills.

I have had a lot of firsts here in this house and in Shimla 🙂 Happy that now Kabir is too! His first time on a horse, which he absolutely loved! Would have just stayed on it riding forever if given the choice! And first time he fell and and got his first cut on the knee…something that just has to happen eventually to every active kid.

Besides having a great time running around the wooden floors and staircase. Playing with the very lovely “Sniffy”, a gorgeous golden retriever. Kicking the ball around early morning in the garden on the hill top. Having picnics, soaking in the sun. Driving around the hills, breathing in the fresh mountain air. And just happy to have his mamma and daddy with him 24×7. So much that every time we’d ask him ” You want to go back to Delhi…to naani?”..“NO!nahin jaana…”. And we did, ended up extending a day more than we planned, with no regrets.

Till the next such vacation and to many more such memories.
