in pictures. A day out to the Science Museum with kids.

We celebrated Kabir’s birthday this year on a Saturday, a day before his actual birthday with a big party for all friends and family! A fun reptile theme for my reptile lover. Will do a post of our DIY birthday party soon!!

On Sunday, his actual birthday, we wanted to celebrate with just us, doing something he’d enjoy. So while looking around for things to do around Bangalore that he’d like (instead of heading out to the mall to play games again), we found the Science Museum near Cubbon Park. While Cubbon Park we frequent at least once a month, the museum was still unexplored.

In the end we finally didn’t make it that day. After a lovely brunch at one of the birthday boys favourite restaurant, Smoke House Grill, we headed back home. Considering we had to be back early to get him to revise for his year end school assessments.

But we did make it a point to go the weekend after.

So after a early lunch at Hard Rock Cafe. Again chosen cos he loves his burger! But frankly we were a little disappointed, the place isn’t quite what it used to be. While the staff was very courteous and playful with both the boys. It seems to be missing it’s old vibe. Would definitely pick Smoke House given a choice between the two, the next time.

Another reason we chose to go to Hard Rock was cos the Science Museum is just a short walk away. That’s something I miss so much here in India. Walking on the road. While in Europe for work or leisure….I walk and walk and I love it! For that matter even Shanghai and Hong Kong. In India, however it’s a luxury. Owing to bad infrastructure. Poorly maintained footpaths and the pollution. But… there are still some places where you can.

And the walk till the Museum was quite pleasant and refreshing.

After a 10-15 minute walk, we reached the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum.

The entry ticket is 50 Rupees per person and it is open from 10am-6pm.

The first floor was what Kabir enjoyed the most with fun activities and interactive set-up. The Fun Science section. The lower floor had a special exhibit of the Wright brother’s aeroplane along with the Engine Hall.

Even the little one was entertained by the machines and loved looking at his big brother doing things with them!

We also went for a short 3D movie which you have to pay for separately. While Ranbir got too restless and refused to sit through the show(daddy stepped out with him mid-way) , Kabir really enjoyed the shark and other fish coming right at him!

Some of the favourite things were the whispering circle, magic mirror, the vortex, coloured shadows and more!

All in all a day well spent. And I’d highly recommend a visit. It’s a refreshing change when struggling to find things to do around Bangalore with kids. Just make sure you are carrying enough water and stay hydrated. The building isn’t air conditioned and it can get quite warm, specially now in the summer. Also, we didn’t explore the entire space as the kids were already getting worn out. And we didn’t want to stress unnecessarily. Thought better to leave something for our next visit!

The highlight of the weekend, a day spent at the new mall in town- VR Bengaluru in Whitefield.

Being a kid again with Kabir, accompanying him on swings where he was not tall enough yet to go alone. Having a nice family lunch and then shopping at H&M. Finally!! To be able to shop at the store right here in our very own Bangalore! ☺️

Followed by browsing through the stalls at the Farmer’s market, picking up some amazing locally grown and packaged goodies. Cheese, pickled tomatoes, honey and more.

Finally ending the day with a lovely evening at a friends place (right here in our very own Raintree 😄🤘🏻)celebrating our tiny but vivacious Emma’s second birthday!

in pictures. the circus came to town…

And we made it happen. After a night at the hospital and Kabir with two teeth less(but spirit in tact!), we got back home and got started on the party planning.

And such a fun party it was…with Kabir the cutest ring master ever and everyone in a medley of stripes and polkas. Thank you everyone for being such sports! It was a fun day at Spectra Raintree…With clown noses and polka balloons. A tent with adorable circus animals for a cake, which tasted as good as it looked! Popcorn and fries and chocolate lolipops…star shaped cookies and chocolate cupcakes…It was a good way to remember Kabir turning three! ❤ ❤ ❤

Everyone says it and I’m no different…Time goes by so fast!!!

Kabir is three already and I don’t know where the last three years have gone…I remember the first day he came home with us, a fragile tiny lil thing. So so precious that he brought tears to our eyes every time we would see him, everytime he would smile in his sleep, every time he would grab our finger tightly in his tiny lil fist. So much has happened since and I wish I could remember every tiny detail, every milestone, every time he said and did anything for the first time…but the reality is that I can’t. God knows I try, with the crazy amount of pictures I take, of him and of us together(a lot of you would think I am obsessive), writing blogs posts and posting pix of Facebook.

Maybe I am doing this cos I know that time is really going fast…It isn’t just a cliche when people say he’s growing up so fast!!! Or even the annoying remark from old aunties…”kitna bad ho gaya hai…chotta sa tha jab tujhe dekha tha!!!“( How much you have grown…you were just a small baby when I last saw you!!!:D) The day isn’t far when Kabir will finish school and will be deciding on his options for college. It seems so far away yet I know that when the day does come, I will be looking back and wondering where did the time go? And seeing him go away far somewhere to pursue his dream, a piece of me will go with him. I know I am being a little melodramatic but yet…its heartbreaking to think of it. For now, I’ll just kiss him a lot, hug him tight, tell him I love him often and loud. Read him stories, kiss his bruises away, teach him, scold him and love him with all my heart. So that when the day comes for him to move away he’ll know how much I love him no matter how far apart we may be….

in pictures. weekend shopping.

A fun weekend. At two different malls in the city. The Zara sale being the common factor! Don’t remember the last time I shopped like this. That too with the entire family, including Sapan’s parents!

Kabir always the first one to get ready and then get crazy restless at why are we not leaving! “Mamma…let’s go..I want to go outside!” “Wear your shoes!!” “Let’s go in the car!” Till finally we are ready to be on our way.

Shopping till we literally dropped. Some good food to kick start our engines and then some more shopping! Kabir took a nap in between somewhere too. Which turned out to be a blessing! Leaving us with time to ourselves without chasing after him.

Though a hour or so later, he was up and re-energized for some more driving in the remote control cars. Which he just can’t get enough of….Finally having us pin him down and drag a very unhappy screaming and kicking 2.9 year old.Luckily the screaming sessions don’t last too long as long as he gets his huggieeee…and loads of TLC.

A long, tiring but super fun day later, Kabir promptly still announces after sitting in the car..”I don’t want to go home!!!”

When I tell my mother about this. All she says is “He’s truly your son!” But mom that was then, when you were the mom and me the daughter. Now being the mom, I very much like my time “at home” lying peacefully on my bed, watching tv and eating from a tub of ice-cream!

Oh well! Day 2 was a lot more relaxed. Kabir dressed in his new purchases from Zara! A a nice Italian lunch, soaking in the sun and ofcourse some more chasing after Kabir…

in pictures. ready for school.

Every morning after both me and Sapan get ready and leave for work, Kabir gets ready for school. I try and leave his clothes out at night to wear the next day. But then I never get to see him in them. So decided to set and leave the camera with Helena(Kabir’s nanny and my lifeline!) to click a few pictures of Kabir, all ready and set for school 🙂

I feel lucky in so many ways to be a working mom. I have a creative outlet, travel, meet all types of different people and then I get to come home to a smiling face and so much love. But then there are those moments when I wonder if I am missing out on little bits of his growing up. And then again, a working me is a more fulfilled and happier me. Which makes me a happier and fulfilled mother to Kabir. I guess the little moments of self doubt and of missing out will come and go. But as long as I keep coming up with ways to make up, be there for him when he needs me, not have him feel left out, and just somehow make it work. I’ll always choose to be a working mother.
