A lil note. My sunshine.

In Stockholm. Rainy and cold…far from the sunny warm weather I was hoping for after a long tiring trip. But I have a good ten days to go, so Stockholm please be kind.
Thankfully my sunshine back home is feeling better after a bout of viral fever. It’s true and absolute Murphy’s law at work. Every time it’s time for me to travel, something will happen to Kabir. All through the last few months when I’ve been home, he’s been just fine. But the day before I have to leave him and go for 10 days, he gets sick. God’s cruel way of making an already guilty working mom feel worse…
But all’s well now that I’ve seen a chirpy and back to getting all better boy of mine on Skype!”Hi mammmmaaa….I’m good!!!”:))

A cute set of pj’s I picked up for Kabir from the surplus market in Delhi. Sarojini Nagar, a must visit on every trip of mine. This time had to push myself a little to get there considering the 48 degrees of the glaring sun!!! But then finds like this make it all worth it 🙂

He looked adorable in it. Little person in a big man’s pj’s! Caught him and his expressions watching “Ice Age2- The Meltodown“. His new current favorite! “Mammma…mammoth…I want to see mammoth”. First thing in the morning and last thing at night! Laughing his head off at Manny’s antics and poor Scrat running after his beloved nut! Singing along to the background score and awwwing over lil |Ellie sleeping under the tree ❤

in pictures. a birthday party.

Back home after 5 days in Delhi on the weekend. Just in time for Kalyani’s birthday celebration. A lovely sunny afternoon in Raintree with the kids:) The tattoos being the highlight of the afternoon 🙂 From the birthday girl turning in to a tiger, to Kabir just about sitting long enough to get his favorite “Nemo”. He’s just such a jumpy kid, always a task getting to sit still for longer than a minute. Had to coax him into it after getting a butterfly tattooed myself!

Getting his passport pic clicked for his school id was such a mammoth task! He just refused to sit!!! So what we ended up was a not so nice, biting his lip slightly, pic. Which was finally possible after I was literally pinning him down in my arms! In sharp contrast to the other passport pix of kids I saw stuck to the forms at school the next day. Kids sitting and smiling nicely, looking straight at the camera! Sigh…!

in pictures. first day of school.

And so it starts. A new phase of Kabir’s life. School. 4th June, 2014 was his first day ever at school. First of many more to come. For him it was a rather good day. He forgot about us the minute he saw the sand-pit at school when we went to drop him. There were no teary goodbyes and hugs. He just got busy.

And then Kalyani was around, the older more experienced one. Who loves school so much that she made her parents take her to school in between vacation just cos she was missing it so much 🙂 Now totally thrilled that Kabir was going to her school too.

Though Sapan and I had decided to take only half a day off till he got done with school, we ended up taking the whole day off. Besides getting odd jobs done around the house(which never ends, specially when you are setting up a new place!), Kabir had a baby’s day out. Just like Sunday but in the middle of the week! A car ride, sitting on joy-rides, a helicopter and a cloud 😛 and eating out in a restaurant, where he can run around, roll on the sofa. Unlike home where he’s strapped to his chair!

It’s started off on a good note and fingers crossed will be like this for sometime at least. Till the time comes when he wont want to get up and ask for a few more minutes in bed and I’ll be yelling at him to hurry or he’ll miss his school bus! Oh ya…his current biggest low-point about school is that he doesn’t get to go to school in a yellow school bus.

on the road. holiday in the hills.

Shimla. A place which used to be our summer holiday destination for years. All through school, the 2 month long summer break would mean at least a month or so spent in my aunt’s beautiful home in the hills. Of course we got tired of it. Same place year in and year out. But then now after I went back there after almost 8 years, in April this year. It brought back nothing but the fondest of memories. And to be able to share that with my husband and son. Absolutely priceless. Now my husband gets my constant blabber about how beautiful the house is 😀

The house is really amazing- The Stirling Castle, Longwood, Shimla. It has a history which goes back years. One of the oldest houses in Shimla built in 1835 or thereabout. It’s original environs are still in tact. It was the residence of renowned Britishers. In early twentieth century, it became property of Maharaja of Gawalior and then of Maharaja of Nabha. In 1963, it was sold by Nabha to The Save The Children Fund to run here a home for Tibetan Refugee Children. The present owners purchased it in 1970 from The Save The Children Fund after FUND’S affairs in INDIA were wound up. The house is on the top of the Elysium Hill and commands a view (360 degrees)of Shimla town and hills.

I have had a lot of firsts here in this house and in Shimla 🙂 Happy that now Kabir is too! His first time on a horse, which he absolutely loved! Would have just stayed on it riding forever if given the choice! And first time he fell and and got his first cut on the knee…something that just has to happen eventually to every active kid.

Besides having a great time running around the wooden floors and staircase. Playing with the very lovely “Sniffy”, a gorgeous golden retriever. Kicking the ball around early morning in the garden on the hill top. Having picnics, soaking in the sun. Driving around the hills, breathing in the fresh mountain air. And just happy to have his mamma and daddy with him 24×7. So much that every time we’d ask him ” You want to go back to Delhi…to naani?”..“NO!nahin jaana…”. And we did, ended up extending a day more than we planned, with no regrets.

Till the next such vacation and to many more such memories.
